Riverbanks Zoo

On July 26,2010 we went to the Riverbanks Zoo i was so excited. I actually didn't get to enjoy the park like i wanted too, we had work a bunck of worksheet to and a scavenger hunt. It turned out to be pretty good though, to see all the animals there habitats and play with some of them. We also went to go see John Davis he told us about compost, they process they go through and where they put it afterwards. Overall it was informative and great.

Coming To an End

On July 22, 2010 was the day we was getting all our work together for the end of the session. We were putting the final touches on our posters and videos. I think that night i had to stay an extra day because we wanted to make sure evertything was straight. It all paid off though cause evertything got finished.

Fisheagle Tour

Today was the day that had me estatic, i went on my first boat ride in Santee, SC. The class and i went to Fisheagle Tours at first it had my head swimming a little bit but it soon calmed i could enjoy the ride and the sites. The first thing that was talked about was the history of Lake Marion, the he went on a talked about the different types of trees and plant in the lake. The different types of water birds caught my attention, how beautiful they were, how they make there nest ontop a tree instead of on a branch (because the nest weigh about 12 pounds), how they mate and how they dry there wings when they get ut the water. It was alot to take in but all so very interesting.

The Vogtle Plant

Yesterday July 19,2010 we took a trip to the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant near Waynesboro,GA. When we got there it was a presentation waiting on us to tell us about the plant, it also informed us about several different plants all over the world. After the presentation we toured the plant, i think the most exciting thing was standing under one of the cooling towers while the water fall and the nice cool breeze was in effect. Also they showed different stuff like the water pumping system and where the water come from, the savannah river, where the futur cooling towers are going to be. Overall the tour was very exciting and informative i really enjoy it.

In the field (SRS)

July 8, 2010 was the day we were searching for a pond. We took a long hike into a quail habitat probably went in the wrong direction one or more times (lol ) but we finally found it, it was dried up, we could see how high the water level got by the markings on trees and many other things. On the way out we stopped and toured the wetland we saw it was very interesting looking at all the different types of plants and animals that grew there and actually kinda scary trying to get through the wetland not knowing how deep every stp you took.

Class Session

July 6, 2010 was our second day in class for session 2. Class was pretty interesting we learned about the Chapman Mechansm which are a series of reactions first proposed by Sidney Chapman in the 1930's to explain the presence of the ozone layer in the earths stratosphere. We looked over the formulas for the reactions. We also talked more about about our contaminants and checked our contaminant kits to see if everthing was in it before we actually use it. Overall class was very informative.
